The best way to summarize FIRST LEGO League is to say that it is a robotics program for 9 to 14 year olds, which is designed to get children excited about science and technology -- and teach them valuable employment and life skills. - http://www.firstlegoleague.org The regional competition will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the University of Memphis, and the state competition will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 in Cookeville, Tennessee. Can FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®) teams improve the quality of food by finding ways to prevent food contamination? In the 2011 FOOD FACTORTM Challenge, nearly 200,000 9 to 16-year-olds* from more than 55 countries will explore the topic of food safety and examine the possible points of contamination our food encounters — from exposure to insects and creatures, to unsterile processing and transportation, to unsanitary preparation and storage – then find ways to prevent or combat these contaminates. *9 to 14 in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. FOOD FACTOR Missions include: Harvest and fish, Clean poisons from farms and lakes, Adjust cooking times, Relocate pests, Adjust storage temperatures, Wash hands FLL teams will explore food safety in a team building environment, research and present their own creative solutions, choosing a food, understanding its journey from ground to table, researching all the possible points of contamination, and then developing an innovative solution to keep food safe.
