PES/IAS & IEEE Memphis Section Meeting: Arc Flash Hazards

6:00pm in the MLGW Admin Building (see pg 3 of May newsletter for more info). Join IEEE for a most informative and relevant course on the new Arc Flash Hazard standards contained in NFPA 70E. An arc flash is "a dangerous condition associated with the release of energy caused by an electric arc." During a flash, concentrated radiant en-ergy explodes outward, resulting in pressure waves, a high-intensity flash, and a superheated ball of gas. These events pose extreme -- even life-threatening -- hazards to electrical workers and can cause serious equipment damage. New standards developed by OSHA, NFPA, IEEE, and the NESC address these hazards and require risk assessments to be made. Your company is likely impacted by these re-quirements.
